Many interesting articles today: the geographical location of habitat has a stronger impact on the fecal microbiome of lemurs than sex, age, or species;  the mechanism for pathobiont-dependent inflammatory bowel disease involves microbiota reactive T cells; highly active antiretroviral therapy can restore gut microbiome diversity in AIDS patients; host immunity can interact with skin microbiota composition as shown in two species of giant salamander; the development of the small intestine microbiome in silka deer; and the gut microbiome of preterm infants that are breastfed develops normally.

Quite a short digest today, still many interesting articles. Today I would like to focus on two papers, both related to  water microbiome. In the first one Antonio M. Martin-Platero et al.  show how microbial plankton are organized into clearly defined communities whose turnover is rapid and sharp, while the paper by Yoann Seeleuthner et al. reveals underestimated functional diversity of  uncultured marine protists across oceans. The third paper I would like to mention is a report by Manuel Delgado-Baquerizo, which provides a global atlas of the dominant bacteria found in soil.

Dimensions not only indexes papers and their citations, but also – uniquely among scholarly databases – connects publications to their related grants, funding agencies, patents and clinical trials.
