A list of Women in Microbiome Research

Here it is: a list with the names of staff and faculty scientist women in microbiome research. (Note: updated December 23, 2016).

This list was compiled with the help of many of my Twitter buddies after I asked to nominate Women in Microbiome Research in September 2016.

Screen Shot 2016-12-17 at 7.04.29 PM.png

I got hundreds of suggestions with names and Twitter handles of awesome women in the fields of microbial ecology, microbiome, rhizosphere, microbial genomics, metagenomics, and bioinformatics. Thank you all so much for your input!

Screen Shot 2016-12-17 at 7.08.49 PM.png

I decided to focus on professors and staff scientists, because my goal was to make a list with potential speakers for a keynote lecture or panel forum. As of now, there are 277 names on the list, and it was quite a task to compile the list from their public profiles. The scope clearly went beyond the field of microbiome research, so it’s probably best to call it Women in Microbiology.

Of course, this is a draft, and there must be dozens of great women whom I forgot or who were not nominated. On this page on my blog I created a form you can fill out to let me know, or you can send me an email (see my About Elisabeth Bik page for my email address). Please be patient for these updates, but I will do my best!

Update December 18: Thanks for the tons of suggestions to include more women on the list. I will save them all and update them when I have some time – which is likely going to be at least a week from now. Please be patient!
