Quite a few articles of interest today:

  1. Foods that are protective of the gut microbiome: Specific oligosaccharides in breast milk can compensate for the effects of C-section births, and cranberries can compensate for the effects of dietary changes in mice.
  2. A possible bi-directional relationship between the gut microbiome and high altitudes: Specific differences in the gut microbiome are associated with differences in tolerance to high altitudes in males, and exposure to high altitudes can alter the gut microbiome in mice.
  3. Microbes in Space: Nitrogen cycle nicroorganisms that may be able to produce food, water and O2 in space, and exposing desert extremophiles to Martian conditions to learn about the kinds of bacteria on other planets
