Highlights!

Capturing the antibiotic resistome of preterm infants reveals new benefits of probiotic supplementation – Allison K Guitor – Microbiome → A survey of the microbiome from preterm infants showed that probiotics use during hospitalization of these infants reduced the diversity and prevented the persistence of antibiotic resistance genes in the gut microbiome. The authors used a targeted capture approach involving lower costs.

Human gut microbiota after bariatric surgery alters intestinal morphology and glucose absorption in mice independently of obesity – Fernando F Anhê – Gut → The exposition of mice to human gut microbiota after restrictive or malabsorptive bariatric surgery could improve glycaemic control, involving, for example, the inhibition of host sodium-glucose cotransporter (Sglt)-1.
